Sitting in the barber's chair, I could feel her staring at me. I was sitting in the chair waiting for the dye (very cheap dye) to be washed from my hair. Still, I was being stared at!
Lady Staring at me: "Where are you from?"
Me: "America, but I've lived in China for a long time."
Lady Staring at me: "You're pretty."
Me (a little startled): "No, actually I'm a bit below average."
Lady Staring at me: "Actually most foreigners are terribly ugly, but you're OK " (turning to all the other customers and beautician) "Most foreigners are really ugly, really ugly, but this one is OK."
I had to laugh! In any other place or situation, I might have taken offence but in this particular situation with this particular 75 year old lady I had to chuckle. My hope is that this lady truly sees a difference in me from the inside out!
As you can see from our top picture, we now have three Burdick girls at Crown College. We miss the girls dearly but are very, very excited to see what the Father is doing in their lives.
Please lift up our friends! Each person pictured on this blog is dear to us and most importantly to Him.
We made a quick trip to Changchun to participate in a friend's wedding (more on that next blog). While there we visited with Ben (former street kid). It was so exciting to see Ben working as a security guard at a restaurant and not as a bouncer at a bar. Please lift up Ben's health! Over the past month he has lost 20 pounds without trying. He eats but can't keep weight on. Please ask for deep changes in this 25 year old's life.
