If I could use only use two words to describe Chengdu, it would be dark and numb. It's dark both physically and sp*ritually. It's in the Sichuan Basis and gets very little sun, as well as being soaked in Buddhism. The numbness comes from the persuit of wealth and apathy towards life beyond the temporary. It's a difficult to live but desperately in need of hope.
I think this picture catches the essence of Chengdu. There is a Buddhist temple on the left, a Muslim vender on the right, a Mercedes in the middle and modern buildings in the background.
